ABSTRACT

The session will explore the fundamental attributes that contribute to define standards on quality and metrics for Advanced Automotive Instrumentation like the ones involved in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) applications.
Topics of the session will be to investigate the approaches of Standard National and international Organizations in the definition of methods, quantities and metrics for measuring and testing automotive sensor quality to ensure consistency and create cross-industry reference points.
The session would raise awareness that quality and performances of automotive advanced instrumentation need metrological improvement, trough also combined actions of standardization organizations, suppliers, testing house and researchers.
The papers should present quantities, metrics, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and existing approaches to fulfil the need of benchmarking products and defining testing methodologies to ensure the quality and actual relevance of performance indicators.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZER

Paola Iacomussi is a researcher at the National Institute of Metrological Research (INRiM) of Italy, with more than 20 years experience and Lecturer at the University of Turin.
She started her research activities at FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) Research Center. In 1995 she became researcher at the Italian National Metrological Institute and started researches in photometry and colorimetry of sources and materials, road lighting characterisation, photometric performances of lighting devices and components for automotive applications. She developed several instruments for materials and source characterization, the most relevant are: a mobile lab for road lighting system characterisation, a mobile radiometer for multispectral imaging of surfaces and a mesopic detector for lighting source and road lighting systems.
She lead and co-lead several international and national research projects on lighting sources and material characterisation, she is the coordinator of the EU funded SURFACE (Road Surface Characterization for Smart Lighting) project, she was work package leader of Metrology for Material Appearance and Metrology for Solid State Lighting. Currently she is strongly involved in Reference Material development based on IoT for vision related quantities.
She is a member of IEEE P2020 working group for Automotive Image Quality, technical secretary of CIE TC4-50 and CIE div4 - ISO TC22 SC35 reporter.
