ABSTRACT

Radar sensors are an integral part of almost all produces vehicles. They are necessary for Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-keeping, Blind spot detection systems, and other ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems). Even a reasonably priced car is commonly equipped with at least three radar sensors - one in front and two in the rear bumper. The importance of these sensors increases with the widespread of ADAS systems. Radar-based control systems affect vehicle dynamics (e.g. steering intervention, emergency braking). Thus, failure can be fatal and thorough design, evaluation, and testing of the sensor or whole system is essential. The special section could offer a place for sharing the experience from various radar sensors related projects (Target simulation, Microwave measurement, Testing, Safety, Communication etc.).

TOPICS

Topics of interest for this Special Session include, but are not limited to:

  • Synthetic target simulation (deceptive jamming) for radar sensors;
  • Safety aspect of radar sensors;
  • Vehicle communication – in-vehicle, V2V, V2X, real-time properties, reliability;
  • Test equipment development;
  • Design of radar sensors;
  • Radar sensor software and signal processing;
  • Vehicle Cybersecurity.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS

Jan Sobotka received Ph.D. from the CTU in Prague, FEE, in 2018 with thesis Methods for Verification and Validation of Automotive Distributed Systems. Jan has started gaining professional experience in 2008 by joining Formula Students team CTU CarTech, which built the first student formula car in the Czech Republic for Formula Student Germany 2009 competition. His activities are focused on automotive communications (CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet, FlexRay), Model-Based Testing, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) simulation, and various automotive industry projects. He is working on target simulation for automotive radar sensors for several last years. He is a car enthusiast with a significant overview of the domain. He is employed as an assistant professor at Czech Technical University in Prague.
