ABSTRACT

At present, vehicular automation, in the broadest meaning of the terms (including ADAS, Automated and Connected mobility and Autonomous Veihicles) beyond being attractive for many practical advantages, ranging from safety to traffic-flow management, still presents some concerns on the trustworthiness of the sensors and sensor networks integrated into vehicles, especially regarding sensor calibration, data uncertainty and metrological characterization.

For the moment, no widely agreed procedures, calibration and characterisation methods, and uncertainty evaluation are available. We invite congress attendees from around the world to submit to this special session their results as well a description of their actual needs on the topic. The purpose of the special session is to provide a wide overview of the current scenario of calibration and characterisation methodologies and facilities for ADAS sensors and their data uncertainty evaluation.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS

Paola Iacomussi is a Researcher at INRIM, the Italian National Metrological Institute, in the Applied Metrology and Engineering Dept. She started her research activities at FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) Research Center. In 1995 she became researcher at the Italian National Metrological Institute and started researches in photometry and colorimetry of sources and materials, road lighting characterisation, photometric performances of lighting devices and components for automotive applications. Her activities in R&D include relative and absolute measurements techniques for characterisation of sensors (especially digital camera), materials and lighting systems for automotive and cultural heritage applications.
Since 2004 she is also lecturer the University of Torino and member of several TC in international and national standardization organizations.

Physicist, is a researcher at INRIM, with 20 years of experience in applied mechanics and materials, vibration metrology and measurement science, and environmental and mechanical vibrations. He is responsible for Vibrations, primary and secondary standard calibration, nominated expert in Consultative Committee for Acoustics, Ultrasound and Vibration (CCAUV) of BIPM; member of the Technical Committee for Acoustics, Ultrasound and Vibration (TA-CUV) of EURAMET; member of IMEKO TC22 “Vibration Measurement”. He is Adjunct Professor at Politecnico di Torino: Noise control Engineering, and participated in several national and international joint research projects (EMRP, EMPIR, PRIN, Industrial).
